Miquel Farré i Albagés

He completed his primary studies at the Llopart school, at València Street 461 in Barcelona, with the teacher J. Pena. His interest in drawing led him to fill his school notebooks with drawings and to use Gothic lettering in his writing. From very early on he showed a great fondness for painting.

With his parents’ consent, he attends the evening classes of the Municipal Schools of Arts and Crafts. He begins his artistic training with geometric drawings, friezes and life drawing.

He continues with the evening courses of the Barcelona School of Fine Arts (Llotja), where he enrols as a free student as he did not yet have the required age. In May 1914 he produces his first watercolour: «Can Planas del Guinardó».

His elder brother, Francesc, leaves his studies to go to work and thus pay for his education, as the family did not have sufficient financial means.

In June, at the Municipal School of Arts and Crafts of district 10, he obtains the following marks: excellent in drawing, excellent with prize in geometry, excellent with runner-up prize in artistic drawing. The school secretary, Joan Llopart, and the director, Miquel Clavé, sign the record.

He continues the courses at the same municipal school, but now as an official student. In June he obtains the following marks: excellent with prize in artistic drawing and excellent with prize in geometry.

He lives on the ground floor of P. Vilaret Street 27.

In the subject of drawing from the antique he obtains the mark of good.

In May 1920 he obtains the mark of notable in the subject of life drawing.

He enrols at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts in the following subjects: life drawing, colouring, perspective, concept of art and of the history of the decorative arts, drawing from the antique, and composition. In May 1921 he obtains a notable in the subject of colouring and composition.

He begins work as an advertising poster artist. He stands out especially for the series of posters made for the SRC car (Stevenson, Romagosa y Cia).

As a soldier of the 1st Mountain Regiment of the 1922 intake, he pays a fee to avail himself of the benefits of article 267 of the Recruitment Law. He holds the category of artillery 2. The certificate is signed by Antonio Sagardía Ramos, Major Commander of the 1st Mountain Regiment, on 30 September 1924.

In March his father dies.

After six years of study, he obtains the certificate of the Barcelona School of Fine Arts.

It seems that he begins his military service in Barcelona, where he meets the officer Sagardía, who was an admirer of his because of his fondness for painting watercolours.

We know that from 12 to 31 May and from 3 to 18 August he stayed at the Gran Hotel de España y Francia in Córdoba, located on Paseo del Gran Capitán 4 and 6. He is in this city to produce the illustrations for the catalogue of a Construcciones Electromecánicas factory.

He lives for some months in Madrid in a studio at Paseo del Prado 18.

Proposed by the Barcelona School of Fine Arts, he is again awarded, by Royal Order of 24 August, a place at the Residencia de Pintores de la Alhambra de Granada. There he meets Ricardo, Carlos Sintompa, Fausto and Calsina.

The International Exhibition of Barcelona commissions from him a painting showing a night view of the central area of the grounds.

A football enthusiast, he takes part in the amateur league as a member of the Catalan Football Federation and goalkeeper for Europa.

With Ramon Calsina he makes a journey through Europe. They visit Paris, London and Italy.

In March he is appointed Artistic Director of the Palacio de la Industria Catalana in Granada.

On 22 March the Board of the R. Amigó Cuyàs Foundation of Barcelona informs him of the award of a scholarship of 3,000 pesetas, lasting 4 months from April. This scholarship gives him the opportunity to visit museums and cities to study the paintings of Zaragoza, Madrid, Toledo, El Escorial, Seville, Valencia and Tarragona. Calsina and his companions hold a farewell tribute for him. In order to monitor the visits, the Foundation asks him for the museum tickets, the notes and the reports prepared. For this submitted work he is awarded an honorary mark.

He takes part in the course on Fresco Painting Techniques at the Istituto d’Arte Porta Romana in Florence.

In the 1930–1931 academic year, the Barcelona School of Fine Arts appoints him merit assistant and he occupies an interim auxiliary post in linear drawing.

On 21 May, with his friend Calsina, he begins a study trip to Paris and Rome.

He is appointed president of the General Association of Poster Artists, a body that arises on the initiative of Josep Alom, Josep Empulla and Josep Morell. Its first activity was the 1st Poster Salon. 46 artists took part. On the occasion of this show he comes into contact with Jean Carlu, director of the Office International de Propagande Graphique pour la Paix, to organise an exhibition of propaganda posters in Barcelona against war.

He joins the Hiking Centre of Catalonia.

He lives with his family at Princesa Street 57, in Barcelona.

He has his studio at Girona Street 49, in Barcelona.

He establishes the first contacts with Manuel Raventós, through the architect Rubió, who wishes him to paint murals for the church he has built in Raimat (Lleida).

He continues as interim drawing assistant at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts.

In Raimat he meets Dolors Raventós i Fatjó, whom he will later marry.

The Museums Board of Barcelona appoints him, by majority of votes, a member of it. On 11 November he attends the inauguration of the Museum of Art of Catalonia.

Estanislau Durán i Reynals, councillor for Urbanisation and Expansion, gives him permission to paint some areas of the port of Barcelona.

A tribute is paid to him, which the Association of Poster Artists of Catalonia joins.

He visits Ordesa (Huesca) with his future wife and with friends.

They live at Avinguda de les Corts Catalanes 644, in Barcelona.

He creates the murals for the church of Raimat, later destroyed during the Civil War.

At the Barcelona School of Fine Arts he serves as merit assistant temporarily in charge of the artistic drawing post.

On 28 February he is appointed representative of the Museums Board of Barcelona on the Board of the Cau Ferrat Museum of Sitges.

On 15 May the Museums Board of Barcelona appoints him a member of the committee charged with formulating the proposal of works from the Spring Exhibition for acquisition by the Museums, the Generalitat and the City Council of Barcelona.

In the month of November he sits competitive examinations for auxiliary drawing teacher.

As a professional member of the Foment de les Arts Decoratives de Barcelona, he makes a donation of 100 pesetas for the fitting-out works of the Coliseum building.

On 12 May he enrols at the Escuela Superior de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado de Valencia. As he had won the first Premio Nacional de Acuarela in the competition called by the Dirección General de Bellas Artes (1933), he only needed to pass the subject of Theory and History of Fine Arts to obtain the teaching qualification, which he receives in June.

On 18 July his first son, Miquel, is born. With the start of the Battle of Barcelona (19/07/1936), in the context of the military coup that began the Spanish Civil War, the family moves to a less central part of Barcelona.

At the end of summer, he moves to Italy. He settles in a hotel in Nervi where some of his relatives were also staying. It is here that he met Andrés Segovia. In October he lives, with his wife and son, in Florence, at Viale Puggi Imperia 4, first-floor apartment.

He enrols in the Art course for foreigners at the University of Florence (from 1 December to 28 February 1937). Later he studies pictorial procedures for mural painting.

We know from the rent receipts that in January he had a rented house in San Domenico (Fiesole): Villa Albiggi, Via Vechia 40.

On 1 April, the immigration office of the Ayuntamiento de San Sebastián grants him authorisation to reside in the city. With his family he stays at the hotel Florida.

His second son, Manuel, is born in Zarautz (Guipúzcoa).

On 3 January, in Zarautz, he is granted a safe-conduct to travel through the province of Guipúzcoa.

From 29 September he will report to the Estado Mayor of General Sagardía, having been appointed Asesor Auxiliar de la Defensa del Patrimonio Artístico Nacional of the Servicio Nacional de Bellas Artes of the Ministerio de Educación Nacional. His mission is to report on works of art and their state of conservation. At the same time, he makes drawings of the front in different parts of Spain for General Sagardía.

The Revue Moderne of Paris interviews him for an article on his work.

He moves his studio from Carrer Girona in Barcelona to Carrer Llúria 51, 4-1, at the corner of Consell de Cent.

On 9 February, the deputy commissioner general of the Servicio de Defensa del Patrimonio proposes that he move immediately to Barcelona in order to collaborate in the artistic recovery of the city as an advisor.

On 14 October the Comisión de la Armada para el salvamento de buques grants him authorisation for free circulation through the port of Barcelona in order to paint in this area.

His daughter, Montserrat, is born on 29 October in Barcelona.

He continues in the post of temporary unpaid assistant in artistic drawing at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Barcelona.

The book by General Sagardía, «Del Alto Ebro a las fuentes del Llobregat», is published. Some of the illustrations are watercolours by Miquel Farré.

On 26 July, the Comisión Revisora de Viviendas y Muebles restores to him possession of his dwelling at Calle Doctor Roux, 107, Barcelona, known as Villa Florida, which had been confiscated.

On 30 November he obtains the title of drawing teacher at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Valencia.

During his stay on the island he requests permission from the military governor of Mallorca to paint landscapes. On 24 July he is granted a three-month authorisation. Once this work is finished, it is censored and reviewed by the Secretaría del Gobierno Militar. He paints landscapes of Palma, Andratx, Deià, Sóller and Valldemossa.

He receives the proposal to produce 6 plates illustrating the book «Esther» by José Francés.

In December he is appointed interim professor at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi de Barcelona.

He sits competitive examinations and is appointed interim chair professor of technical procedures of painting at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi de Barcelona.

On 21 February he receives authorisation from the Comandancia Militar de Marina de Bilbao to take sketches of the estuary.

He is appointed full academician of the Reial Acadèmia de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi de Barcelona.

He is a member of the jury for the exhibition of students' works of the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi de Barcelona.

He executes the frescoes of the church of Nuestra Señora de las Escuelas Pías on Carrer Diputació in Barcelona.

The Boletín Oficial del Estado publishes his definitive appointment as Catedrático Numerario de Procedimientos Técnicos de la Pintura.

He paints in fresco the chapel of Can Codorniu, in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, with scenes of the Wedding at Cana and the Multiplication of the loaves and fishes.

In the short course on decoration techniques organised by the Foment de les Arts Decoratives de Barcelona, he delivers, on 25 February, the lecture “Pintura mural”.

He takes part as a jury member in the Julio Antonio sculpture prizes and the Medalla Tapiró painting prizes, organised by the Diputación Provincial de Tarragona. The works are exhibited from 10 to 27 June.

He is part of the jury that awards the travel scholarships of the Fundación R. Amigó Cuyàs and of the Escuela Sant Jordi de Barcelona.

He executes the frescoes of the Real Colegiata de Santa Anna de Barcelona: Capilla del Santísimo.

On 26 February he is a member of the board for the competitive examination for the posts of Auxiliar de Dibujo y Grabado of the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi de Barcelona, Auxiliar numerario de Escultura and Auxiliar de Pintura.

The board of the Reial Acadèmia de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi entrusts him, together with J. Puig i Cadafalch and F. P. Nebot, with studying the most suitable solution for improving the facilities, the artistic elements and the library of this institution.

In September he undertakes with Successor d'E. Meseguer, publisher in Barcelona, to write a publication entitled «La pintura a la acuarela».

He takes part in a lecture series organised by the Asociación Vizcaína de Arte on the subject of «Concepto de la pintura en general».

On 27 February he is authorised to circulate in the border zone with France, especially through Núria and la Molina for 15 days.

He gives Josep M. Junoy the watercolour «Road from Puigcerdà to Bourg-Madame».

He illustrates the book by Pere Benavent «Versos i proses de la Vall d'Aran», with the intention of allocating the proceeds to donations for the reconstruction of the chapel of the Camí de Gessa (Val d'Aran). 20.000 pesetas were raised.

He paints in fresco 3 apses for the chapel of Sant Joan Bosco of the Expiatory Temple of the Tibidabo in Barcelona.

On 7 June Jesús Raventós Fatjó, brother of Dolors Raventós, through the Spanish Consulate in Buenos Aires requests the due authorisation for his sister, the artist's wife, to travel to Buenos Aires to visit him.

On 26 April he is appointed member of the board for the competitive examination for the chair of engravings and chalcography of the Escuelas de Bellas Artes de Barcelona and Sevilla. The competition will be decided in 1949.

The Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi seeks his advice to fill the sculpture vacancies. Farré proposes Frederic Marès, Borrell Nicolau and Enric Monjo.

In the university extension courses of Sant Cugat del Vallès in August–September, he gives a course on contemporary Spanish painting.

On 26 August, at the age of 78, his mother, Josefa Albagés i Josa, dies. He makes the commemorative drawing.

His ties with the Val d'Aran lead him to take an active part in the reconstruction of the chapel of the Virgen de Montserrat of Gessa.

On 15 July, he proposes to the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de Madrid the holding of an exhibition on the Catalan artist Pau Civil i Costa. The Agrupación asks him to take part in the organisation.

In April, the Agrupación Española de Acuarelistas pays him a tribute.

The Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi studies the possibility of building a new building where the Palacio de Bellas Artes once stood. The painter is appointed member of the committee charged with this study.

In January, Ll. Miquel Martínez calls on him to begin preparing the walls of the Banco de Bilbao headquarters on Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona, which will house the decorative frescoes.

In January, academician Borrell Nicolau takes office at the Reial Acadèmia de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi; M. Farré is to reply to the speech. In April, once again, he replies to the speech delivered by Monsignor Griera upon the presentation of the academician's medal.

He declines the possibility of taking part in the Bienal Hispanoamericana de Arte, citing a lack of works to present. In fact, from this moment on, his interest centres on mural painting and teaching. All the same, and especially during his continued visits to Raimat and the Val d'Aran, he continues painting landscapes in watercolour.

On 18 September, he is part of the jury of the II Concurso de carteles simbólicos de homenaje a la vejez, organised by the Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros de Barcelona.

In 1949 the Comisión Diocesana de Música y Arte Sacro had awarded him the decoration of the Capilla de la Virgen del Claustro de Solsona. It is in 1952, however, that he begins to work on it.

He completes the murals of the Banco de Bilbao on Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona with allegorical scenes of commerce, industry and agriculture.

On 21 November, he gives a lecture entitled «The modern arts» at the Escuela de Bellas Artes y Oficios de Olot (Girona).

He is part of the jury for the Premio Morera de Lleida.

He paints in fresco the chapel of the Suquets agricultural estate, Suchs (Lleida), then owned by the Irigoyen family. The chapel measures about 138 square metres and he fills it with the theme of the gospel of Saint Francis Xavier in the East.

The second edition of his book «Pintura a la acuarela» is published.

On 13 March, at the Escuela de Arquitectura de Barcelona and within the lecture series «Decoration of the modern home», he contributes a lecture entitled «Mural decoration: materials, colour, tapestries, paintings».

He is an honorary member of the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de Cataluña.

As a gift for two novice nieces, he decorates in fresco some rooms of the convent of the Discalced Carmelites of Mataró (Barcelona) with themes related to the life of Saint Teresa and Saint John of the Cross.

He again executes the frescoes of the church of Raimat (Lleida), which had been destroyed by the war, with agricultural and biblical themes. He finishes the work in August.

On 9 March, at the Escuela de Arquitectura de Barcelona and within the cycle «Construction techniques», he gives a lecture entitled «Pintura mural».

He enters the competition organised by the Ybarra company for the decoration of the ocean liners Cabo San Roque and Cabo San Vicente. For this purpose he produces numerous sketches of divers, regional themes and scenes from Don Quixote. In the end they were decorated by Caballero and Vilaseñor.

He undertakes various journeys outside Catalonia. He visits, among others, the cities of Zurich, Stuttgart, Munich, Innsbruck, Milan, Geneva and Marseille.

On 13 January he begins a series of frescoes for the Banco de Vizcaya on Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona.

At the Escuela de Bellas Artes y Oficios de Olot he gives a lecture on composition in mural painting and the techniques of fresco painting.

In June, as a result of his friendship with the sculptor Josep Clarà, the School of Fine Arts and Crafts of Olot and Girona announces the Miquel Farré Prize for former pupils of the school. The chosen theme is the festivities of Our Lady of Tura. The first prize is 15,000 pesetas and the runner-up award is 500 pesetas.

He plans the opening of a School of Fine Arts in Guinea, following a student's suggestion.

In February he joins the geography and geology section of the Hiking Centre of Catalonia. He delivers the speech for the institution's 80th anniversary.

From 7 to 10 April he takes part in the 7th International Congress of Romance Linguistics held by the University of Barcelona.

On 10 December, as vice-president of the Hiking Centre of Catalonia, he delivers the opening speech for the Exhibition of High Mountain Paintings by Marià Pidelaserra.

In January he gives a lecture «Plastic arts. Fundamental orientations. Factors that enhance the work of art. From the abstract to the concrete.» at the novices' college of Sant Pere Claver in Raimat (Lleida).

Under the theme «Homage to Old Age» he paints a mural in the Levant Pavilion of the Anna G. de Mundet homes of the Barcelona Provincial Council.

At the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc he gives the lecture «Importance of the colour note in painting».

The Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi of Barcelona asks him for a biographical essay on Josep Clarà; the work was published in 1961.

In March, at the Hiking Centre of Catalonia, he gives a lecture entitled «General concept of painting».

On 18 August, on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the School of Fine Arts and Crafts of Olot, he delivers a lecture on the work of Josep Clarà.

He takes part in a journey organised by the Diario de Barcelona to what were then the Belgian Congo, Ruanda-Urundi and Uganda. During the journey he makes numerous sketches and watercolours. On 20 November, at the Hiking Centre of Catalonia in Reus, he shows the slides from this journey.

With his friend Garrut he founds, under the patronage of the Barcelona Provincial Council, in the cloister of the church of Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona) the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting, of which he will be not only the creator and director but also a constant driving force.

With the board of the painting subsection of the Hiking Centre of Catalonia he studies the possibility of organising the 1st International High Mountain Painting Salon.

The Marquis of Lozoya proposes the mural decoration of the Valle de los Caídos, a project that the painter did not accept.

On 26 January he is appointed member of the board for the competitive examination for the chair of Pictorial Procedures at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Madrid.

He continues as director and teacher at the International School of Mural Painting in the Monastery of Sant Cugat, Barcelona.

E. Schaub-Koch publishes the first monograph on his painting, edited by Masó, publisher in Barcelona.

He paints the frescoes of the Arms Hall of the Alcázar of Segovia, with the theme «History of Spanish Artillery».

On 14 February he gives a lecture at the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc entitled «Artistic impressions and anecdotes of a journey to the Belgian Congo».

He has a serious car accident with part of his family.

He is a member of the jury for the chair of pictorial procedures at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Madrid.

He is a member of the jury of the Vilaltella Prize announced by the Cercle de Belles Arts of Lleida.

He continues his work at the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona.

In April, at the Centre of Musical Youth of Sabadell, he delivers a lecture on his journey to the Belgian Congo.

He continues directing the Mural Painting courses at the School of Sant Cugat and his work at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi of Barcelona.

In July, representing the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc, he sits on the jury charged with awarding incentive scholarships for the artist's further training, scholarships granted by the Barcelona Provincial Council.

In Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (Barcelona) he creates a fresco mural for the visitors' room of Codorníu, S.A.

The Rev. Manuel Trens and other representatives propose that he stand for the presidency of the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc, a proposal that Miquel Farré declines.

He submits a budget for the creation of mural paintings covering 38 square metres and 7 themes for the Civil Government. The project is never carried out.

From 12 February to 13 April, the Barcelona Provincial Council organises the spring course of the International Institute of Romanesque Culture at the Monastery of Sant Cugat. He takes part in the section on technical application to mural painting.

On 5 September he is appointed alternate member of the board for the competitive examination for assistant in Art History at the Higher School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi of Barcelona.

In December he is a member of the jury of the Morera Prize of Lleida.

In December he takes part in a colloquium on modern art at the Cercle de Belles Arts of Lleida, with the critics Àngel Marsà and Carlos Antonio Areán.

From October onwards he is a member of the association Les Compagnons de l'Art Mural, of Paris.

From 2 to 7 May he takes part in the 7 Giornate Internazionale del Colore, held in Florence–Prato–Padua.

In August, the Municipal Housing Board of Barcelona invites him to take part in the working groups formed at the sessions on «Conversations on religious architecture».

From 16 November to 10 December he teaches the autumn course classes of the School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat.

He paints the frescoes at the entrance to the Puríssima Pavilion of the Hospital de Sant Pau of Barcelona. The theme of the frescoes refers to victory over illness and suffering. These paintings no longer exist today.

At the exhibition held at the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc, on the opening day he presents the works corresponding to the Grup Cogul, of artists from Lleida.

In March he gives a lecture on the painter Vila Puig within the framework of the tribute exhibition to this painter at the Palau de la Virreina of Barcelona.

From 25 to 30 July he is in charge of welcoming the artists taking part in the Congress of the International Secretariat of Catholic Artists, at Montserrat, organised by Pax Romana, an institution to which he belongs.

He is asked to contribute two works for the inauguration of the exhibition hall of the Real Círculo Artístico, which takes place in October.

He dedicates much time to teaching and himself accompanies the students to visit the city's cultural centres: the Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Lletres, Palau Moja, Barcelona City Hall, the Provincial Council, the Museum of Art of Catalonia, the Monastery of Pedralbes, the Llars Mundet and Park Güell, always within the activity programme of the spring course organised by the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting, from 24 May to 26 June, in Sant Cugat.

He teaches the autumn course of the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat del Vallès.

On 24 October he is appointed member of the board for the competitive examination for permanent assistant in painting at the Higher School of Fine Arts of Barcelona.

He continues teaching the autumn course classes of the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat and in the chair of Pictorial Procedures.

During the spring course, from 25 May to 25 June, at the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat, various visits are made to the Museum of Art of Catalonia, to Pedralbes and to the Llars Mundet.

It is proposed to the teaching staff of the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi that the students of his pictorial procedures class decorate the new School of Fine Arts with fresco paintings. The proposal was not accepted.

By decree of the Barcelona Provincial Council he is appointed member of the jury of the Grand Sant Jordi Prize competition of the Barcelona Provincial Council.

On 18 October, the director of the Higher School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi appoints him member of the board for the competitive examination for two museum conservators of Barcelona: the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Technical Office of the Municipal Art Museums. Later he is appointed member of the board for the post of Technical Museum Conservator.

He is invited to join the commission for the creation of the Barcelona delegation of the International Association of Catholic Artists affiliated to Pax Romana.

He offers Futbol Club Barcelona the possibility that the students of the School of Mural Painting decorate the club's rooms.

Joan Moncada makes a 30-minute film entitled «Un curso de primavera en la Escuela Internacional de Pintura Mural de Sant Cugat». This film is later screened at schools dedicated to the teaching of mural painting.

From 26 May to 26 June he directs the spring course, and from 6 to 11 November the autumn course, of the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat.

A proposal arises to paint and decorate the column hall of Vic City Hall. This idea was not carried out for lack of budget.

In May, events and lectures are held at the Official College of Architects of Barcelona to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the founding of the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat.

In October, his son Manuel and his daughter-in-law, Maria Emilia, die in an accident at sea. They leave five children.

He illustrates, with 33 drawings and 9 watercolours, the «Linguistic Atlas of the Val d'Aran», published by Polígrafa (1973) and written by Monsignor A. Griera.

He receives a proposal to paint, with his students, the ceiling of Vic Cathedral. This proposal is never carried out for lack of budget.

In September he takes part in a round table held at the Linen Research Centre of Barcelona, where he explains the theory and practice of using linen in the removal of frescoes.

From 26 May to 30 June he directs, as usual, the activities of the spring course of the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat.

He plans the decoration of the church of Sant Pere de Roda de Ter (Girona), but in the end the idea is not carried out.

The Reial Acadèmia de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi appoints him member of the Board of the Monastery of Sant Cugat.

He retires from his chair of Pictorial Procedures at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi of Barcelona.

As usual, from 22 May to 30 June he teaches the spring course of the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting.

In December, at the Cercle de Belles Arts of Manresa, he delivers a lecture on the plastic arts within the framework of architecture.

He takes part and collaborates in establishing the foundation of the Val d'Aran Museum, Vielha (Lleida), together with Felix Sampere, Yvan Gameris, Ramon Arquer and Isabel Fuster.

The Barcelona Provincial Council requests from the Autonomous University to the Board of the Monastery of Sant Cugat the recovery of the premises used by the School of Mural Painting of Sant Cugat.

He is appointed member of the jury that awards the painting prize Medalla Jaume Morera 1972, a prize granted by the Lleida Provincial Council.

He maintains his teaching activity in the spring courses of the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat, from 28 May to 28 June, and later also in the autumn course.

The Barcelona Provincial Council organises the course Art and Decoration at the School for Women. He gives a lecture entitled «Un pintor. Escuela de Sant Cugat.» on 1 April.

In July, the art studio Amics de Sant Cugat proposes Miquel Farré as a member of the jury of the 6th Quick Painting Contest of Sant Cugat del Vallès.

On 7 November the Lleida Provincial Council appoints him member of the jury of the Medalla Jaume Morera Prize in Galicia.

He decorates the fresco of the dome of the chapel of Sant Jordi in the present Palau de la Generalitat of Barcelona (then belonging to the Barcelona Provincial Council).

Within the course Art and Artists, offered by the Barcelona Provincial Council, on 17 December Miquel Farré takes part with the lecture «Testimony of an artist».

Owing to his post as Director of the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting, the plenary session of the Barcelona Provincial Council of 28 June appoints him member of the Advisory Commission on Works of Art, for the selection of works to be acquired by the Provincial Council, according to the agreement signed among various art galleries of Barcelona during 1973 with the aim of creating the holdings of the future Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona.

A small quarrel arises with the Association of Friends of Sant Cugat over the occupation of space in the Monastery of Sant Cugat.

On 30 May he sits on the jury that awards the Lola Anglada Prize 1975, granted by the Barcelona Provincial Council. Two runner-up awards are given to M. del Mar Ortega Arias and to Eduard Rim.

In May he proposes Josep M. Garrut as a candidate to fill the painting vacancy at the Reial Acadèmia de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi.

On 21 May he dies in Barcelona as the victim of a heart attack.

The Most Excellent Barcelona Provincial Council, in plenary session of 22 December, replaces the name School of Contemporary Mural Painting of Sant Cugat del Vallès with that of International School of Mural Painting Miquel Farré.
