Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya

In 1975, Miquel Farré executed his final fresco work in the Saint George's Chapel of the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya. On the dome, he depicted the patron saint of Catalonia accompanied by knights, with their figures silhouetted against the sky. Created at seventy-four years of age, the work culminates his mural career with a painting of great fluidity and formal refinement.

"The first time the Saint is supposed to have appeared to our warriors was when Borrell II reconquered the city of Barcelona. Then Saint George, riding a white horse, dressed as a warrior in the fashion of the era, charged among the Saracens, encouraging this unexpected surge in the Count's host, winning a battle they had almost given up as lost. The vision of Saint George during the recovery of Barcelona has been considered the beginning of his patronage over Catalonia."
